Periodontal Therapy
When gum disease strikes, we have a solution.
Periodontal therapy refers to the treatments used to address and stop the progression of gum disease and restore gum tissues to health.
In the most severe cases, gum (periodontal) disease can spread from the gums to the bone that supports the teeth and cause tooth loss. Periodontal therapy can take various forms, but the goal is always to restore diseased tissues back to health. Gum disease can be prevented if you maintain good oral hygiene, regular professional cleanings, and oral examinations.
Scaling & Root Planing
The standard treatment for gum disease is a combination of two deep cleaning techniques: scaling and root planing. Together, these processes are used to thoroughly clean below the gum line and reconnect the gum tissue to the teeth.
Scaling removes plaque and tartar buildup on teeth above and below the gum line. We clean the teeth down to their roots to remove all plaque so it won’t continue to inflame your gums.
Root planing is the technique of smoothing out the roots of the teeth once they have been cleaned. This encourages the gums to reattach to the teeth in areas where they have separated.
