TMJ / TMD

If facial pain is affecting your day, we can help!

You may not be as familiar with the term TMD (temporomandibular disorders). This is because these disorders are most commonly referred to by the name of the joint they affect, TMJ (temporomandibular joint).

This joint connects the jawbone to the temporal bones and helps with movements such as chewing and speaking. When someone is experiencing problems with the TMJ, they can face symptoms including jaw pain, headaches, locking of the jaw, difficulty chewing, clicking or popping noises in the jaw joint, and changes in how the teeth fit together.

Bite Splint Therapy

The most common treatment for TMD is the use of bite splints. A splint is a removable mouthpiece custom-made from a mold of an individual’s teeth. These simple devices help relieve pressure on the jaw joint, which assists in relieving pain and correcting structural issues with the jaw and bite.
