Don’t forget the SPF and Dental Hygiene too!

Summer means peak vacation season, but there is something very important to point out! While you are relaxing on your get-away, remember that taking a break from your dental hygiene could turn future vacation days into sick days sooner than you think. Just like making sure no one is left behind at a gas station during a road trip or double-checking luggage before a flight, it’s important to make sure your oral health isn’t left off of the itinerary.

Near or Far, Your Oral Health is Important

With busy schedules filled with numerous activities, long car or plane rides, and possible changes in time zones, vacationing throws off your usual routine and may cause you to forget about dental hygiene practices, such as properly brushing. Without regularly brushing your teeth, you can get plaque buildup, creating opportunities for cavities to form or even leading to tooth decay and gum disease.

Exploring new locations is an exciting part of vacationing, however, these new locations also have the potential to introduce your body to tons of bacteria that it may not be used to. By brushing your teeth and using mouthwash throughout your trip, you can protect your mouth from these bacteria!

Vacations aren’t only a break from work, school, or daily life; they are often a break from your normal diet. Eating unhealthy, sugary foods is a classic staple of vacationing! While it’s great to indulge during your trip, all that extra sugar could cause cavities if you don’t maintain a proper dental hygiene routine.

Keep these in mind, and don’t let your oral hygiene slide away at the waterpark this summer.

Dental Hygiene Tips for Your Trip

Now that we’ve talked about the importance of taking care of your teeth and mouth while on vacation,
here are a few tips to help you maintain your dental health this summer.

Careful Packing

Isn’t it the worst when you get to your destination without sunglasses or a swimsuit and must go out and buy new items? That’s why you absolutely cannot forget to pack your dental care supplies, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash. Make sure these items are packed in a sealed bag or container to keep them clean.

Wash Your Hands

Your hands can get dirt, sunscreen, and even bacteria of many kinds all over them during those fun vacation activities. So, wash your hands thoroughly before brushing and flossing your teeth to make sure you don’t render your attempted cleaning meaningless with dirty fingers.

Brush and Floss Regularly

While vacationing is a great time to break away from your usual schedule, you didn’t pack your toothbrush and its dental hygiene friends for nothing! Remember to continue brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing daily while enjoying your summer fun.
